Last week we introduced to you the VIRIBUS UNITIS A11 by a new microbrand watch company VIRIBUS UNITIS . It was an amazing timepiece inspired by the air war of 1917.

Today we are introducing another uniquely made and magnificent timepiece, the VIRIBUS UNITIS 153.52 which is again a watch from the AIRBORNE watch collection which again is inspired by air wars. This time though is completely different story behind it and honestly you should pay attention.

Everything started with the ALBATROSS D-III the amazing aircraft that was driven by the most successful Austrian-Hungarian fighter pilot that had over 40 air war wins; His name was Godwin von Brumowski. ALBATROSS D-III is one of the most iconic aircrafts in history that was ever built.

The ALBATROSS D-III had the identification 153.52 which was subordinated to the aircraft fighter units of FliK 41 J. FliK 41 the company behind this extraordinary and famous aircraft was founded on the 21st of February in 1917. Later that same month February 28, 1917 they added the latter J to Jagdfliegerkompanie.

It was the first original and pure fighter aircraft (Jagdfliegerverband) that was built for the Imperial and Royal Aviation Troops (KuK aviation groups) and it was the first ever to be used in the battle between Austria-Hungary and Italy in WW1 in 1918. FliK 41 J had the reputation of making the best units of the Austrian aviation troops.

There are were many ALBATROSS D-III air crafts but three of them that the pilot was Godwin von Brumowski had a very unique and exquisite red paint. They also featured a unique painted skull. The model numbers of those air crafts were 153.45, 153.52 and 153.209.

VIRIBUS UNITIS wanted to honor this aircraft as well therefore the design and the color combinations they used for the 153.52 are true to the original design of the three ALBATROSS D-III. The red sandwiched dial and the black color of the bezel symbolize the original painting of the aircraft while the black gradient is a reminder that the majority of the air war victories happened at night, just like the A11

The arrows that are printed at the position 9 are inspired from a historical instrument that was used to measure speed. The upper arrow shows the service peak height of the 153.52 and the lower arrow represents the water tightness of the watch in feet. In the previous review we made a comment of that “feet” writing but since then we learned how to measure it so we made our peace with it.

We stick to our original comments and beliefs about the company. Nobody could ever represent the air battles of 1917 so accurately and so creative other than VIRIBUS UNITIS. Their watches scream uniqueness and quality just like the air crafts of 1917.

On the caseback we can see the name ALBATROSS D-III 153.52 which as we mentioned was the purest fighter aircraft in the war of 1917. We can also clearly identify the aircraft in the center of the caseback proudly engraved with high precision and quality next to the name of the watch brand VIRIBUS UNITIS.

The 22mm stainless steel bracelet is built of high quality for many years to last. It has engraved proudly the company’s logo and emblem. It feels easy to wear and is not as heavy as it looks. Something to consider for those who don’t like wearing heavy watches.

The readability at night of the 153.52 model is very high thanks to the SUPER LUMINOVA that they used and the amazing sandwich dial that makes reading the time a breeze. Again extra points for taking into consideration to add very bright lume and they didn’t cut back on costs like some other companies (we won’t mention names here).

The 153.52 sports surgical Stainless Steel 316L just like it’s brother the A11. It comes in 42mm diameter case with 11mm height. As we mentioned previously the height of these watches might seem a lot but when you get a real life experience out of it the feeling is way different.

The movement inside this beast is the super precise and reliable Miyota 9015, that features 24 jewels and that it has a vibration frequency of 28800bph. Undoubtedly a beast watch with a beast movement.

Wearing this watch for the past week i must say, I received many compliments and i told the war story at least three times to people who asked about the elements of the watch and if it had a back story. Honestly I will stop because I can talk for days for this amazing timepiece.

The 153.52 with the extraordinary red/black gradient dial and the limitation of 200 timepieces ever made worldwide guarantees to everyone sporty exclusiveness. The prices of the AIRBORNE series start at 390,00 EU and the 153.52 will cost you a small fee of €420, a very impressive value, and you can order it directly from https://www.viribusunitis-watches.com/en/luft/.
