Centric Instruments Lightwell – The most capable watch in its class
Even our team of authors and editors often see the same kind of watches on Kickstarter, over and over again, therefore when you identify a new watch project that offers completely different, you have to talk about it. On top of that, it’s a huge pleasure when it’s a product that is well thought, that offers style and of course practicality. Centric Instrumentsand more specifically the Lightwell watch collection is the product of imagination that Michael and Anthony shared and are bringing to life on May 15th 2018 on Kickstarter.
You may ask, why is this watch different and what does it make it special? Let’s find out.
First of all the Lightwell features a solar paneled dial and movement. What that means is that the dial is transparent and allows light to pass through it and hit the solar panel which is placed underneath it. That way the movement is powered without any winding and without worrying about changing the battery. Other than this unique beveled dial features polished indices along the hour track. The hour hands and the numeric markings are of course using Swiss Lume in order to shine bright in the dark and to make it super easy to read even in the hardest scenarios. Solar powered, beveled and swiss lumed. The dial is covered with a thick sapphire crystal which is of course coated with AR coating to help out with reflections and at the same time make it super resistant to scratches. The best part is that, just 1 minute of direct exposure to the sun powers the watch for 24 hours. Is there anything these guys didn’t think of? Lets proceed to find out.
The case of the Lightwell watch is inspired by the WWI-era field watch. This is the reason that offers a proud yet stunning reference to it. The case is constructed with surgical grade 316L stainless steel which is super resistant to corrosion. It measures 38mm wide just like a field watch was supposed to be, has a 10mm thickness and a total of 45mm from lug to lug. These measurements make it the perfect size for either men or women. The case features a screwdown crown which makes the watch water resistant up to 10ATM/100m. Your new companion to go surfing or even light diving in the endless sea. The difference that the Lightwell watch offers in its casing is that 60% of the stainless steel come from recycled scrap material in order to minimize industrial waste. They even care about the environment. These guys can’t stop amazing me.
The Lightwell offers different types of straps. The first type is their waterproof straps that are custom-made using high-tensile silicone rubber. They are extremely resilient and we all know that silicone is the most durable and most comfortable strap of all. It is currently offered in the Kickstarter campaign in a matte black finish.
At the same time they offer two leather straps made out of Italian vegetable-tanned leather which is a type of leather of high quality. It is the type of leather that is using organic tannin’s instead of toxic chemicals. The leather straps are offered in 3 color variations, black, tan and brown.
The straps mentioned above all feature quick release spring bars on the back which makes it super easy and super convenient to change the straps without any hustle.
What makes Centric Instruments different than other brands is the fact that they actually care for the environment. They partnered with top manufacturers in Shenzhen that comply with local and national environmental regulations to increase energy efficiency and of course to reduce carbon emissions. At the same time the movement that is powering the Lightwell is made by Seiko, a brand that we all know and trust for their reputable name and quality.
To sum up I will close by saying that we keep waiting for watches like the Lightwell. Innovative, exciting and of course different. Honestly an exceptional and impressively flawless watch has finally appeared on Kickstarter after a long time. Don’t make the mistake of not following up on their campaign and of course don’t miss out on an opportunity like this. The pricing on the Lightwell watch starts at $160 for the early birds and goes higher so rush over there.
