Camden Watch Company No. 253 – Not for one but for all
Occasionally we stumble upon brands that’s are bargains for the Classy Gentleman out there, that’s why today we are introducing Camden Watch Compnany.
First of all the unique timepieces that the company offers are designed in Camden and of course they are inspired by it too. The industrial character that exists from the past, and the vibrant atmosphere it offers.
A few things that you need to know before we proceed. Camden Watch Company is an Award winning, independent British watch brand that it was founded by Anneke Short and Jerome Robert back in 2014. Anneke explains:
“We pride ourselves on giving fashion watches the high-end treatment, concentrating on every detail from the embossed ‘C’ on the crown to the engraving on the case back, maintaining quality at all times whilst ensuring that every design decision is firmly rooted in Camden.”
The designs that are offered for men are No.24, No.27, No.29, No.88, and No.253. Today we are going to talk about the No.253 which is probavbly the most complex design the company ever designed to date. It is based on the wheel of stream train and a homeage to the Victorian age of ingenuity and invention.
The dial is inspired by the railway activity that Camden once had. Inspired by the distribution of goods via canal boats all over the country it clearly and proudly displays it with the amazing dial. However the key inspiration of the No. 253 is none other than the wheel of a steam train.
It features luminous indexes, triangular studs and stencil numbers on the base which scream robustness. The design is of course practical and at the same time beautiful something that is not very common on many watches out there. It’s either one or the other but in the case of Camden Watch Company that’s not the case. The whole dial sits on an enhanced background with a square motif and is surrounded by a dial ring to make the design of the industrial character more balanced.
The color of the platform has a red color that pops out on the black dial. The minute and hour hands are highly polished and as mentioned are treated with high quality lume that makes it much easier to read at time. A clean design for the modern gentleman.
The case is made of a high grade stainless steel 316L and is PVD Black Plated to showcase that industrial feeling. It measures 9.2mm height and 41mm in diameter. This means that the watch will fit perfectly most wrist sizes, big or small without any complaints. At the same time, the case is rated at 5ATM or 50meters which makes it suitable for a light swim and at that price range is very hard to find a watch with that water rating.
On the crown side of the watch we can identify the engraved “C” of the company’s logo that is proudly showcased on the crown. Moreover, the crown has an amazing grip and it feels really smooth and responsive without and problems when changing the time.
On top of everything there is a flat hardened mineral crystal which is a type of mineral crystal that is much harder than the normal types and the fact that is flat helps with the overall size of the watch.
The movement inside this bad boy is a Japanese Miyota quartz movement, that is known for its reliability when it comes to keeping the time and has a battery life that lasts a really long time.
The caseback is a screw down case back which helps with the water resistance and features integrated lugs to house the main case and the movement. On the caseback we can easily identify the engraving of the logo of the comapny, The lugs featured a nice curve for max comfort and they sport screws for maximum longevity of the strap and at the same time to showcase the inspiration of the watch.
The strap that is featured on this model is a black Genuine leather strap that sits nicely and comfortably on the wrist.
The no. 253 collection comes in a variety of color options. To be exact there are 6 different color options to choose from and match your favorite outfit or your style. The Brown and steel version, the black and steel version, the new Memento Mori with black strap, the Memento Mori with the tan strap, the black and red version and the tan and steel version. All of these can be found here.
Overall, No.253 is a watch that exceeded our expectations. You can’t find a watch at this price range that offers so much. Usually watches at this price range they feel cheap or they lack something, they feel incomplete. That’s not the case with the Camden Watch Company no.253. The pricing for this collection starts at £119 and goes up to £175 which again is not expensive at all.
A side note. The company recently launched and funded their first automatic collection on Kickstarter with over 200% funding. The new watch collection is currently under production and is going to be released soon for the public. At the moment only pledges of the Kickstarter campaign will receive the watch to enjoy before anyone else. Here you can see the amazing watch campaign. The company explains that the watches will be ready in March of 2018. For more updates regarding the automatic collection read here. We sure can’t wait to get our hands on that new automatic timepiece because we clearly know that Camden doesn’t play any games when it comes to timepieces. They are all in!
